A Trip to London to Visit the Queen!

The fifth graders in the Gentleness Fruit Stand have taken a trip to England this week!  We found out that England is a “melting pot” of cultures because it has been invaded and conquered by so many groups of people throughout History… Ancient Stonehenge builders, Romans, Celts, Vikings, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, and the list goes on!!!  We learned about the historical period (1455- 1485), in which rulers from the House of York and the House of Lancaster gathered armies to fight each other in an attempt to control the throne of England!  Guess what:  the Wars of the Roses were not a group of florists getting together to see whose roses smelled the sweetest!!!  As we studied this period in history, we definitely discovered the Gentleness was NOT reborn during this time!  We discussed how history sometimes repeats itself.  Questions about the reasons these things happened were raised in our class discussion. Check out our pictures from the trip:

Illustrations, charts, and graphs are helping us remember historical events!

In Math this week, we discovered that decimals and fractions represent the same thing!  We converted fractions to decimals and practiced this skill in our IXL Computer program as well.

Our Bible studies continued with extra practice in remembering the books of the Bible.  We constructed flip charts in addition to our “hand- jive” posters from last week to help us remember Books of Law, History, Poetry, Major and Minor Prophets.  Wow…. these books sure are hard to spell!!!
