Our first week in the Gentleness Fruit Stand (AKA Fifth Grade) was spectacular! The teacher learned so much! I loved learning about each student’s favorite hobbies, favorite sports, favorite foods, and especially their favorite ways to learn!!!! We started off with our “Gentleness Fruit Stand Puzzle”. We each illustrated five things about ourselves on unique and oddly shaped puzzle pieces. After sharing with one another about the ways in which God made us all unique and special, we attempted to put our pieces together to form one large “Gentleness Fruit Stand Poster. The poster illustrated how God uses our unique gifts and talents to work together for His glory. What a wonderful job the fifth grade saints did on cooperative learning!
The week was filled with learning from the Bible about God’s word and its TRUTH. We rapped to some cool scripture verses, and learned about Bible study tools.
We read the book, Thank You, Mr. Falker,by Patricia Polacco. This book took us on a journey through a little girl’s life and her struggle with learning to read. We tasted honey from the top of a book and made the connection between words and honey – “sweet“. “Yes, and so is knowledge, but knowledge is like the bee that made that sweet honey, you have to chase it through the pages of a book!” We loved the book! I won’t give away the entire plot, in case parents want to read and find out the surprise ending.
We played cool learning games with synonyms, place value into the hundred billions, math “splat”, and lots more. Stay tuned as we begin to explore God’s world of “Matter, Matter, Everywhere” in science.
I look forward to many more exciting weeks with these awesome fifth graders!!!!
