The “Perimeter” of “Book Characters” Plus the “Area” of “Mariachi Music” Equals “Loads of Fun”!!!!

The fifth grade saints in the Gentleness Fruit Stand have had an exciting week!  In math, we finished up fractional concepts and began measurement and geometry.  We have explored the perimeter and area of many types of polygons, and are measuring our way throughout the building!

Book Character Day was definitely the highlight of our week!  What a surprise when the saints arrived at school on Tuesday; and instead of seeing their teachers, they were greeted by a  school full of storybook characters!  The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders were “sorted” into “houses” by “the sorting hat ” from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.  The four groups- Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Gryffindor, rotated between four book characters:  “Professor McGonagall” for science activities, “Waldo” for math and graphing activities, “Amelia Bedelia” for language activities, and “Sacajawea” for history activities.  What a day of fun, fun, fun!!! (and quite a bit of learning too).

Music last week was also a barrel of laughs.  We took the Mexican theme from our “Fee-esta” and learned about Mariachi Music.  We learned about the history of the music and we learned how to play a few Mexican instruments along with the music.

I have included some pictures of Math, Music, and Character Day fun!

May you all have a wonderful week full of God’s blessings!
